Login problems after install

Hello,
I followed you installation instructions exactly, but I cannot login after installation or SMC is redirecting to the wrong page. I installed smc at /root/dirname/dirname/dirname/smc. After I attempt to login I get redirected to the /root instead of the root of my SMC install /root/dirname/dirname/dirname/smc. Am I just not configuring the config.ini.php file correctly? Every time I change the path to root from default to something else I get a blank page for the preflight check.

No, I wasn't able to. I tried. Any suggestions? Do you need to see a copy of my config, etc.?
